I am a native of Poland. Although
my career to that point led me through the world of science a major
change in direction occurred when I discovered the wonderful world of
fiber. My fascination with weaving began 15 years ago. It actually
started with color. What drawn me to a
hand-woven piece was its extremely deep and rich color combination. In
order to break the geometrical patterns and restrictions that come with
traditional weaving, I employed different materials. I took a variety of
workshops that explored certain specific weaves still looking for
something distinct and more original.
Eventually, I immersed myself in weaving plain fabric, simple weave, but
a lot of fun with color. I weave scarves, predominantly using rayon
chenille thread. Chenille is a luxurious yarn that makes a wonderfully
rich, drapable fabric. I like especially space dyed chenille. These
scarves are light and Then I started to design primitive styles of
clothing that did not require cutting the hand-woven fabric. There are
stoles, triangular wraps for every figure and shape, also old fashion
shrugs and ponchos.
The fabric is mostly chenille, although I use texturized cotton and
rayon as well. With a little encouragement I got a serger and begin
cutting and weaving miles of fabric. I construct vests, tunics, and
jackets and try to make them look unique by using shibori technique in
dyeing and discharging the color.
