Artist Biography

Marie was born in NYC and grew up in New Jersey.  She graduated from James Madison University in Virginia with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  After teaching elementary school for a few years she moved to Gainesville, FL with her husband and two young daughters.  In 1992, Marie began teaching art to young children and is still enjoying that part of her life today.  As her own children grew she pursued her interest in painting.  Over the years she found her medium of choice...oils.  Primarily self-taught, she continually strives to expand and refine her use of oils learning from and with other artists she admires.  Her work is displayed and available for purchase at local art shows and exhibits as well as in Gainesville, FL at the Artisans' Guild Gallery and in Newberry, FL at Cucina Mia in the Town of Tioga Town Center.  Marie also accepts commission work. 

Artist Statement

"Through the use of oils, I interpret scenes that I am drawn to, from landscapes and architectural subject matter to still lifes.  Impressions of colored glass are also favored compositions for my work.  Painting allows me to translate what I see with fresh color, striving to capture the effects of natural light in various settings."
