Marilyn Gray

Book Artist

Artist Biography

Marilyn Gray, the daughter of a military family, spent her formative years in Hawaii.  She has a masters degree in elementary education and was a teacher.  In 1988, her husband and family were transferred with his job to Australia and the life of a calligrapher was born.  She first studied calligraphy "down under", and continued her studies in Toronto, Chicago, Florida, and Asia.  She has been able to work with many master teachers and attend several international conferences.  Her work has been exhibited at the National Postal Museum, the Oregon Book Arts Guild, and the "Turning Pages" exhibit at Miami Dade College.  She is in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution and the Jaffe Collection at Florida Atlantic University.  As a result of her travels and studies, the Asian and tropical influence is an important part of her work.
