Artist Statement: I am a self-taught artist who creates sculptural assemblages from a wide range of materials. I see everything as art, and find great pleasure in creating--- whether using wood, metal, fiber, paint, bone, clay, or other found objects. My imagination is like a wild child. The more I let her experiment and explore, the happier she is. I am not fixed on a certain style, nor do I work from sketches or plans. My best and most joyful work comes when I simply “play” and delight in the process.
Some of my processes include hand sculpting, stitching fabrics and fibers, bonding, painting, staining, sanding, collaging, and assembling. In my backyard workshop, I utilize more than 50 boxes of collected objects (organized by body parts) and a variety of tools, including saws, drills, sanders, rivets and a dremel. Detail work, such as sculpting and painting, is done in a small studio inside my home.
Each piece is imbued with a token of my inner dialogue capturing my hopes, fears, moods, doubts, dreams and longings. What results are works that range from playful and irreverent to soulful and introspective.
