Support women and women’s cooperatives from around the world while you shop Earth Bound’s exquisite collection of handmade folk art and fine crafts by skilled artisans. Earth Bound is a non-profit organization that works with women’s cooperatives worldwide whose members make unique folk art representative of their culture. Each artist creates her own designs that bear her name using resources that she has gathered or grown from her own village.
Laurie Wilkins, former owner of Gainesville’s Alternatives Marketplace, will set up shop on the front porch of the Artisans’ Guild Gallery on Saturday, April 18 from 11 am – 5 pm. This Porch Pop-Up event includes Maya woven textiles from Mexico and Guatemala, baskets from lowland tropical forests of Venezuela and as far away as Swaziland, and pottery from the Amazon. In addition to micro-enterprise, Earth Bound’s goal is to educate the public on the importance of environmental and social issues surrounding the world’s wild places and native cultures. Wilkins has been involved with Earth Bound for nearly 30 years, with the help and dedication of board members, students, and volunteers.
