I am drawn to the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, which is quite difficult to define; so, beauty of things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. My influences come from every day observations of shapes and textures in nature. My focus is to keep things simply put, it is the simple. I am excited by the magical nature of soft clay to capture moments and textures of time.
Working in clay is a satisfying and tactile way of communication for me. Evidence of my touch is apparent in the imperfections found on the surface of my pots. Mary Ann had taught pottery classes and workshops in the Reitz Union at the University of Florida for over 30 years.
