I absolutely love the creation of mosaic it's been a delight and privilege to be a part of a community of artist and health care providers and an institution who embraces the arts and creativity as a way to support the healing process in the hospital and the community. I pulled up a couple of photos of mosaics I built for the Shand’s Hospital The Sand-hill cranes are in the entry of the adult emergency department in the south tower. Mosaics in the Shand’s North Tower include 2 mosaics are located on the 10th Floor Pediatrics one in the elevator bay the other in the pediatric heart unit. 2 were made for the mother baby unit one in the elevator bay the other in the waiting room The 4 th floor unit 44and 45 elevator 6 small ones and one large that is an interactive piece with bird houses and children’s toys and animals also, on on the 4th floor the Our Town mosaic depicting Gainesville, Bo Diddly Plaza, the 34th street wall the University of Florida stadium and more.
All of the installations for me were a tribute for my growing love of Gainesville, its community, the natural beauty, and of my love for Arts in Medicine program, my patients and all those involved in its development and growth. My process in creating mosaics includes many elements, nature, narrative, whimsy, sparkle, color, drawing and painting, fabric a variety of materials and surfaces found objects broken bits and more. I love the surprise of finding the perfect broken bit and creating from there.
